Moon Over Soho - Ben Aaronovitch (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Moon Over Soho Author: Ben Aaronovitch Genre: Crime, Fantasy, Mystery Published By: Gollancz Published Year: 2011 My Review: Having my colleague let me borrow the second book in the Peter Grant series I was looking forward to see how they would progress from the first book and what supernatural beings that they would have to defeat now. Moon Over Soho  is about jazz musicians who end up dying not long after coming off of the stage and seeming healthy at the time. Feeling that something is wrong they call in Peter Grant to help with the investigation and discover that something supernatural was going on. While this is happening there is a new threat arriving called The Faceless One who is also a wizard but no-one remembers what they look like. Will Peter be able to stop the threats facing London? Personally, I liked this book a lot more than the first book as it was already established also there was more supernatural beings introduced and to worry about in Londo...

Rivers of London - Ben Aaronovitch (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Rivers of London Author: Ben Aaronovitch Genre: Fantasy, Mystery, Crime Published By: Gollancz Published Year: 2011 My Review: Having been recommended Rivers of London by a work colleague and them letting me borrow their copy I wasn't sure what to expect about this book but from what they told me I was intrigued. Hearing that this was a paranormal crime book which had wizards, vampires, ghosts and more left me interested in how it would be brought together and I am so glad that I did decide to read this. Rivers of London is about a police officer called Peter Grant who on guarding a crime scene ends up getting a statement from a ghost which leads to him working for the supernatural department in the police. Not only this but with people's faces falling off and crimes seeming like they are out of the Punch and Judy puppet show will he be able to solve the crime and stop more murders taking place? I really liked how the start of the book showed how Peter was j...

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Rise of the Planet of the Apes Year: 2011 Genre: Action, Drama, Sci-fi Directed By: Rupert Wyatt Starring: James Franco, Andy Serkis, Freida Pinto About:  A substance designed to help the brain repair itself gives advanced intelligence to a chimpanzee who leads an ape uprising. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28Z_D9Grh18 My Review: Having owned the trilogy on DVD for a while however never having seen any of them I thought it would be a good idea to start with the first movie. Not knowing if I would like this or not I thought I was worried about this however I really shouldn't have been as it was a lot better than I had expected it to be. This film is a brilliant way of starting a trilogy with finding out how Caesar was born and how he was more intelligent because his mother had the drug in her when he was born so it was transferred over to him. Seeing how Caesar was also with the doctor in which was told initially to kill him and how he became par...

Book: I Heart Vegas Author: Lindsey Kelk Genre: Chick- Lit, Romance, Contemporary Published By: Harper Published Year: 2011 My Review: Having seen this in a bookshop and thinking it looked different from my normal reads and books I had picked up recently I thought I would give this a read. As my first from Lindsey Kelk I didn't realise that this was in fact the fourth book in the I Heart series. I Heart Vegas is about a woman called Angela who has just received a letter that she is to be deported back to the United Kingdom in only four weeks time and needs to find herself a new visa or get married. As her friends try to cheer her up they end up going to Vegas for four days, where there is drama and romance! Will Angela manage to find a new job and receive a working visa? Will she marry her boyfriend Alex? or will she end up getting deported back to the United Kingdom? I thought that this book was very well written and took me completely by surprise. Having not read th...

Dog Training- Pet Friendly: Understanding and Caring For Your Pet - Julia Barnes (book review)

Book: Dog Training- Pet Friendly: Understanding and Caring for your Pet Author: Julia Barnes Genre: Non-Fiction Published By: Magnet & Steel USA Inc. Published Year: 2011 My Review: Getting a new puppy soon I thought it would be good for me to take a look at a dog training book just to remind myself of some training techniques as I haven't had to train a dog for years. This book is very easy reading and does go over things in which people already will know wither they have a dog or not as well as going over how to do certain tricks such as: Sit, Lie Down, Wait and more. By having a step-by-step way of doing this it helps new trainers to be able to do these tricks easily and effectively. This book also did have some dog sports in which I was not aware of and am interested in so I am happy that it focuses not only on show dogs and dog dancing but also other sports such as Flyball. By also having an index at the start of the book so that people can get to the section i...

While doing so she asks for help from her next door neighbour who helps her to track them down while also catching feelings for each other. HOP (film review)

Film: HOP Year: 2011 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Starring: Russell Brand, James Marsden, Elizabeth Perkins About:  E.B., the Easter Bunny's teenage son, heads to Hollywood, determined to become a drummer in a rock 'n' roll band. In LA, he's taken in by Fred after the out-of-work slacker hits E.B. with his car. My Review: As it is Easter I decided to watch an Easter movie and one of the only films that came to mind was HOP which by luck is also currently streaming on Netflix at the moment. So what better opportunity to watch this film than during the holiday! HOP is a film about EB who is going to take over being the Easter Bunny this year however has dreams of being a drummer so runs away from home and runs into a man who is looking for a job and tries to get his life on track. While this is happening a chick over on Easter Island is trying to take over from EB and be the next Easter bunny!! I think this is such a feel good film and one of the only ...

Kung Fu Panda 2 (film review)

Film: Kung Fu Panda 2 Year: 2011 Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure Starring: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan About:  Po and his friends fight to stop a peacock villain from conquering China with a deadly new weapon, but first the Dragon Warrior must come to terms with his past. My Review: Having recently watched Kung Fu Panda and realising that the second one is on Netflix I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to review this one as well! Having high hopes because of the first one this is what I thought of the follow up movie. Kung Fu Panda 2 again follows Po however he has accepted that he is the Dragon Warrior and has made friends with the furious five which he looked up to and who at first didn't accept him as the Dragon Warrior. However, when looking after a village he has a a flashback to when he is a child but doesn't understand what it is about. Throughout you start to wonder about Po's past and what has caused the flashbacks to begin an...
