Illuminae - Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (book review)

Book: Illuminae Author: Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff Genre: Sci-fi, Young Adult, Romance Published By: Knopf Books for Young Readers Published Year: 2015 My Review: Having heard a lot of positive things about this book I thought I would check it out and borrowed it from the library and found it was a really quick read and rather unique in the way that it was written. Illuminae is about survivors from a war trying to get to safety however there is a plague in which is getting throughout the passengers and is driving them crazy. Not only this but it seems like the main computer system has also went insane and has stopped trying to protect the people like it is supposed to to. I thought that this book was original in it's story as well as the way that it was written and some of the pages with the imagery was really well done and also made to be really pretty. This did keep me wanting to see how the pages would look and with it's unique style I thought it was well ...

Augur of Shadows - Jacob Rundle (book review)

Book: Augur of Shadows Author: Jacob Rundle Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-fi Published By: N/A Published Year: 2019 My Review: Having received a free copy of this book as an ARC for Silver Dagger Tours I was glad to be able to be a part of the tour as the novel seemed very interesting to me and had a great premise about it. With the book being a young adult, apocalyptic novel. Augur of Shadows is about a boy named Henri and his friends Simeon and Etlina who need to stop the Old Ones from coming to Earth and destroying the world and putting it into complete darkness. In order to do this Henri must use his magic in order to bring the apocalypse and help reset the world. I found that this book had a good story and that it was a very easy book to read, which did make me want to continuously find out more about how the children's adventures would progress. By also seeing how Henri comes to terms with his powers was something in which I thought was great for the reader as ...

Icefire - Chris D'Lacey (book review)

Book: Icefire Author: Chris D'Lacey Genre: Fantasy, Young Adult, Fiction Published By: Orchard Books Published Year: 2003 Having liked the first book in The Last Dragon Chronicles I thought I would read the second book in the series which is Icefire . This is a book in which is different to most dragon typed books and one that is still very enjoyable to read. I liked how the book started off where the last book did which led to the reader not being confused or wondering what has been happening since the first book ended. Having also kept the same characters however introducing new ones throughout the novel did make it exciting and keeping some of the mystery till near the end keeps the reader wanting to know more throughout. I did think by having David in this book able to see the dragons move and interact rather than just as statues made of clay was a brilliant way of letting the reader see into the world of dragons more and understand the personalities of some of the dr...

Book: The Fire Within Author: Chris d'Lacey Genre: Adventure, Fantasy, Young Adult Published By: Scholastic Inc. Published Year: 2007 My Review: Having taken part in the 24in48 readathon I was able to finish reading The Fire Within by Chris d'Lacey which is a book I have owned for years and always enjoyed reading. This novel is about a man called David who just moves into the Pennykettle household and ends up mixed in the drama with their next door neighbour Mr Bacon who is trying to catch and kill a squirrel in which the daughter in the Pennykettle household really cares for. As well as this he is given a clay dragon and starts to learn the secret's about them. This book is split into two parts; the first part being called The Spark and the second part of the book being called The Fire Within. Due to there being two parts I am going to review each part separately and then do an overall of the book. The Spark The first part of the book is in which David ar...

Blood Water - Dean Vincent Carter (book review)

Book: Blood Water Author: Dean Vincent Carter Genre: Horror, Young Adult, Fantasy, Sci-fi Published By: Corgi Books Published Year: 2009 My Review: Having owned this book for years it is a book in which I read every few years when looking for a horror novel to read as it has always left me entertained and wanting more. The novel is about a doctor who discovers a new species of creature and after experimenting with it the parasite gets free and starts to terrorise the town while trying to find out information but not really knowing what it is looking for. At the same time the town is going through a flood so everyone is stranded and two boys in which find out about the creature try to destroy it but when it can go into people and creatures will they be able to destroy it or will it escape. I find this book very fun to read and I find it hard to put it down once I have started it, with a fast pace as well the book is easy to get absorbed into especially as all the informatio...

A Graveyard Visible- Steve Conoboy (book review)

Book: A Graveyard Visible Author: Steve Conoboy Genre: Young Adult, Horror, Fantasy Published By: Lodestone Books Published Year: 2018 My Review: I got a copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. Being brought in by the cover I couldn't wait to read this. This book is about a boy called Caleb who when he sees men up at the graveyard near his house starts to become interested in what is happening up there and ends up mixed up in a paranormal horror story he doesn't know how to stop. This book was a great read and I found myself getting chills at points and needing to put it down so I could get back to my normality which I loved about this book. I also thought that this book had enough horror in it which I don't find in many books I have read of this style. I do however feel that there was issues with this book such as not saying who was speaking in chapters which did leave me confused at points about who the story was following. Not only...

The Fault In Our Stars - John Green (book review)

Book: The Fault In Our Stars Author: John Green Genre:  Young Adult Fiction Published By: Penguin Published year: 2012 My Review:  Having seen the film before and always told to read the book I caved and decided to read it and I was not disappointed. Having been unable to put this book down since I started I managed to read this book in under 7 hours! The Fault In Our Stars is about a girl called Hazel who has cancer however when she meets a boy at a cancer support group called Augustus she falls in love, while struggling with her cancer and worrying about him becoming too close to her. I loved this book and it made me laugh at times and get a lump in my throat as well as sad. This book is a great romance with the twist of cancer between two teenagers who fall in love even though they know their time together is limiting however does not stop them from doing as much as they can. I feel that I have maybe seen the film too many times however as I always knew what wa...
