The Road To El Dorado (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Road To El Dorado Year: 2000 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Bibo Bergeron, Don Paul Starring: Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh, Rosie Perez About:  Two swindlers get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcOfJwN0bdY My Review:  Letting my Twitter decide which movie that it wants to see me review the most voted for movie was The Road To El Dorado . Having either never seen this before or not having seen it in so long that I couldn't remember anything about it I was excited to watch this. Knowing that this was a children's movie I wasn't sure what this would be like but really hoped that it would be good for both adults and children and I was not disappointed. Humor is a key part of the film and was very well done for both an adult and child audience with jokes that both adults and children would get without it being too obvious. Having this made me laugh and enjoy the film...

The 5th Wave (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The 5th Wave Year: 2016 Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama Directed By: J Blakeson Starring: Chloe Grace Moretz, Matthew Zuk, Gabriela Lopez About:  Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth in ruin. Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmxLybfGNC4 My Review: Having not seen The 5th Wave in a while and continuously being drawn to it in my movie collection I decided to give this a watch. Gutted that they decided not to continue on the franchise as it left a lot of questions however I do find this film enjoyable. Showing the background to the film and the different waves in which The Others seemed to take when eliminating the human race was something which helped the audience understand what was happening with the waves of Darkness; Destruction; Infection; Invasion and Child Education. With each wave killing humanity on the Earth so that the aliens are able to...

Total Recall (film review)

Film: Total Recall Year: 2012 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: Len Wiseman Starring: Colin Farrell, Bokeem Woodbine, Bryan Cranston About:  A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Recall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pV2zz3z0oM My Review: With this movie calling out to me over the last week I thought I would give in and give it a watch. Having not seen this in a couple of years I couldn't really remember it all that much which I was thankful for as it left me constantly wanting to know what was going to be happening next. Having also not seen the original in a while I am not able to compare both of the movies. I did think that having the main character Douglas lose all memories of his previous life and not really understanding why he is having dre...

Missing Link (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Missing Link Year: 2019 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Chris Butler Starring: Hugh Jackman, David Walliams, Stephen Fry About:  Mr. Link recruits explorer Sir Lionel Frost to help find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, this trio of explorers travel the world to help their new friend. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6jCNhebfg8 My Review: Having wanted to see this in the cinema and not getting around to it I was glad to see that this came onto Netflix so that I was finally able to see this. Thinking that the trailer looked funny and being a fan of Hugh Jackman I was excited to see if this would be as good as I was hoping however even though it didn't wow me it did make me laugh. I thought by introducing the main character of Lionel by showing how he was trying to get a picture with Nessie was a good way of opening the movie, with being Scottish myself it was funny ...

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Year: 2005 Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy Directed By: Andrew Adamson Starring: Tilda Swinton, Georgie Henley, Willam Moseley About:  Four kids travel through a wardrobe to the land of Narnia and learn of their destiny to free it with the guidance of a mystical lion. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWKj41HZBzM My Review: Thinking about watching this film for the last couple I thought that I would re-watch this for the first time in a couple of years. Knowing this is something in which I watched throughout my teenage years I wasn't sure if this would be as good to me as an adult and as much as I did love it there was some things in which did annoy me. I like how when they are in Narnia it seems to have a lot of mythological creatures such as fawns; unicorns; dwarfs and minotaurs showing how the world is different from their normality which is in England during the second the world wa...

Jumanji: The Next Level (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Jumanji: The Next Level Year: 2019 Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Jake Kasdan Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart About:  In Jumanji: The Next Level, the gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to rescue one of their own, the players will have to brave parts unknown from arid deserts to snowy mountains, to escape the world's most dangerous game. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBxcF-r9Ibs My Review: Loving Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle I knew I had to see this movie when it came out and luckily managed to see it in the cinema. With the cast of this film being amazing and the first one being one of my favourite releases of 2017/18 I was worried that this wouldn't have the same effect but I am so glad that I was wrong. Jumanji: The Next Level is amazing at bringing the humour back to the movie for a second time around and it doesn't feel forced or like it us unoriginal or used up from the last movie whic...

Klaus (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Klaus Year 2019 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Sergio Pablos, Carlos Martinez Lopez Starring: Rashida Jones, Jason Schwartzman, Joan Cusack About:  A simple act of kindness always sparks another, even in a frozen, faraway place. When Smeerensburg's new postman, Jesper, befriends toymaker Klaus, their gifts melt an age-old feud and deliver a sleigh full of holiday traditions. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taE3PwurhYM My Review: From the moment that this was released onto Netflix I was excited about this movie especially as it seemed to be different from the usual Christmas movies in which have come out before. From my excitement I was scared that maybe I had hyped it up a little too much for myself and I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I thought but I am so glad I was wrong. I loved this movie and it was different from other films I had seen and made me captivated throughout and make me feel like this is a film in which everyo...

The Monster Who Wasn't - T.C. Shelley (book review)

Book: The Monster Who Wasn't Author: T.C. Shelley Genre: Children's, Fantasy, Adventure Published By: Bloomsbury Published Year: 2019 My Review: Having noticed this in a book shop I decided to go to my local library and reserve a copy in order to read it. Luckily it arrived rather quickly for me so I was able to start reading this a lot sooner than I had planned and as a result decided to also give it a review. The book is about a child who is born in the underworld however is born with not only the last sigh from the man dying but also a babies laughter which makes the monster come across more human. Trying to stay hidden from the troll king who is trying to use the child he is trying to keep hidden but also finding out about family and maybe he just isn't a monster at all. I thought that The Monster Who Wasn't was well written and made me want to know more about it right from the start, by having the gargoyles as creatures who accept the child for who he...

Film: Shrek Year: 2001 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Andrew Adamson, Vicky Jenson Starring: Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz About:  A mean lord exiles fairytale creatures to the swamp of a grumpy ogre, who must go on a quest and rescue a princess for the lord in order to get his land back. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W37DlG1i61s My Review: Wanting a nice easy film to watch I thought I would watch Shrek which is a film in which I grew up with and I am able to quote pretty much word for word. I find that this film always makes me happy and it just relaxes me to watch which is something in which I was really looking for when I decided to put this on. Personally I love this film, this humour in it is brilliant for both adults and children which does make this an easy film to watch with the whole family. Not only this but by having it with fairytales in which people grew up with as some of the characters and making the traditiona...

Sahara (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Sahara Year: 2017 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Pierre Core Starring: Omar Sy, Louane Emera, Franck Gastambide About:  A young cobra and his scorpion best friend go on a journey across the Sahara desert to save a new-found love Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3IRkT9JsqM My Review: Having a movie day I came across Sahara when on Netflix and having no expectations about this film and also not knowing what it was about I thought that it would be the perfect film to blog about. I did think that this was a cute adventure movie but would be better suited to a younger audience than myself. I found that this film was really sweet that the snake wanted to go across the desert in order to find a snake in which he found he felt a connection with even though they were different kinds and also from different worlds. I also thought by having the girls brother being a drug addict and struggling with wanting more drugs and wanting to leave his...

Storks (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Storks Year: 2016 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Nicholas Stoller, Doug Sweetland Starring: Andy Samberg, Katie Crown, Kelsey Grammer About:  Storks have moved on from delivering babies to packages. But when an order for a baby appears, the best delivery stork must scramble to fix the error by delivering the baby. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZENmkJk9fBM My Review: Having a movie day I couldn't decide what film to review however one film stood out to me more than the others have and that was Storks which made me laugh as well as kept me entertained all the way through the movie. As a result I thought that this would be the perfect film for me to review. Personally I liked how this film showed how Storks carried babies like what children are told when they are little however decided to change to just delivering parcels due to one of them wanting to steal a baby and as a result has lived in their warehouse her whole life. I did ...

Spider-Man: Far From Home (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Spider-Man: Far From Home Year: 2019 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: Jon Watts Starring: Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Jake Gyllenhaal About:  Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nt9L1jCKGnE My Review: Being excited that there was a Spider-man movie coming out I needed to see it as soon as I could however this film left me feeling kinda disappointed at the end of the film which did upset me and I feel like they rushed over some parts and made other parts just a little too slow for me personally. I did like that this film showed what happened to everyone since the Blip which happened in the Avengers movies and that even though some people aged the ones who came back were the same age and had to continue life as they had before. This helped to explain what happened with everyone after the events of Endgame and sh...

Leaving looking into this film and not seeing the trailer as I didn't want to ruin this for myself either I went in with an open mind and unsure what to expect. This film definitely exceeded my expectations and left me constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought that Mune: Guardian of the Moon was great in that it had someone who didn't want the job of guardian get it and h...

Dark Phoenix (film review)

Film: Dark Phoenix Year: 2019 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: Simon Kinberg Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence About:  Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-q8C_c-nlM My Review: Having been an X-Men fan for most of my life I was excited to see that Dark Phoenix was coming out and decided to go to the cinema to see it on the first opportunity that I had. Although this is a decent watch this is nothing like what I expected it to be and it really let me down. I thought that this movie was good in showing how Phoenix had dangerous powers and that Jean had no control over them which led to her hurting the ones that she loved. Realising this she did try to get help from anyone who she thought would be able to help he...

Aladdin (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Aladdin Year: 2019 Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Directed By: Guy Ritchie Starring: Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott About:  A kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcMtWwiyzpU My Review: Loving Aladdin since I was a child and seeing that a new one was released with one of my favourite actors Will Smith in it I badly needed to go and see it. Feeling worried that it wouldn't live up to the previous with Robin Williams as he left an incredible character of Genie behind. However, this movie exceeded my expectations and I ended up loving it a lot more than I expected. I loved that the beginning of the movie foreshadowed the film with showing how Will Smith was telling his children a story which had some songs about a princess, prince and a genie in which later is his family after the genie is allowed to become hu...

Adoring the first film and having watched it a few days prior I was excited to see what happens in the second movie and if it would live up to first movie. I love that  Ralph Breaks The Internet continues on from the first movie really well and tells us that it has been six years that the main characters have been friends for and how Vanellope is starting to get bored of her game and wants more excitement in her life. By also showing how Wi-fi became a part of t...

Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIxnTi4GmCo My Review: Having never seen this movie before and never having heard anything about it I was so happy to go into this movie completely blind. This is a movie which actually made me cry and I was so happy that it did as it showed just how good this movie was. This film starts with showing how the main character is hunting then gets thrown off of a cliff making the audience unsure if he lives or not. Showing afterwards a week before that to give the film more context I thought was a really nice touch and left me wanting to know more about ...
