John Wick (film review)

Film: John Wick  Year: 2014 Genre: Action, Crime, Thriller Directed By: Chad Stahelski, David Leitch Starring: Keanu Reeves, Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen  About:  An ex-hit-man comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that killed his dog and took everything from him. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RllJtOw0USI My Review: Noticing that John Wick was on TV and that I hadn't seen it in a while I decided to give it a watch, this is a film in which I have always enjoyed and being a fan of Keanu Reeves couldn't wait to see again.  This is a film in which I love the action within it and by showing the reasons why he is going after the gangsters. Showing that John is already going through grief when they make it worse and wants revenge by leaving him with nothing from his wife and nothing to love by killing the dog in which his wife gave him as a last present from her. Personally, I really like how much the audience is able to see how sca

Keeping Mum (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Keeping Mum Year: 2005 Genre: Comedy, Crime Directed By: Niall Johnson Starring: Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith About:  A pastor preoccupied with writing the perfect sermon fails to realize that his wife is having an affair, and his children are up to no good. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75NOYE2-PFY My Review: Looking through some of my DVD's I came across Keeping Mum and realising I hadn't seen it in years thought I would give it a watch. This is a film in which I used to enjoy and would make me laugh so coming across it again I was excited to see if I felt the same towards it years later. I like that this movie starts with the mum and how she is a murderer and tells the audience why she killed someone and how she ended up in an asylum for the insane. By doing this it gave some insight into the character in which the audience would be watching about. By after showing how a pastor from a small village is having problems wi

Mirror Mirror (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Mirror Mirror Year: 2012 Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Drama Directed By: Tarsem Singh Starring: Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer About:  An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILDeA7AqA84 My Review: Having not seen Mirror Mirror in a while I thought it would be a good way to start the week and a film, by also wanting something that was easy watching I thought that this would be the perfect movie for me and I was right. I like that this movie is not the same as every other Snow White film which has been released however stays true to the overall story. By having Snow White still hated by her step-mother as she is the fairest of them all and the rightful queen to the throne and still tries to kill her. Having through the movie the way that the queen is able to use magic and how the magic mirror is able to reflect who the qu

Fifty Shades Darker (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Fifty Shades Darker Year: 2017 Genre: Drama, Romance Directed By: James Foley Starring: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Eric Johnson About:  While Christian wrestles with his inner demons, Anastasia must confront the anger and envy of the women who came before her. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUnylyz5mqQ My Review: Having liked the books when I first read them years ago and having seen the first Fifty Shades movie when it first came out I thought I would check out Fifty Shades Darker especially with it having been Valentines Day yesterday. I think that this film is good in showing how much Christian is willing to change for Anastasia to be the man in which she wants him to be even though she knows she will never be the woman in which he needs. I also think that by showing the person in which groomed Christian is a good thing to see as the audience is able to see how that changed him as a person but also how she is still part of Christian's lifestyle

Krampus (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Krampus Year: 2015  Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Horror Directed By: Michael Dougherty Starring: Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner About:  A boy who has a bad Christmas ends up accidentally summoning a festive demon to his family home. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6cVyoMH4QE My Review: Thinking it would be a good idea to watch a horror/comedy film I couldn't resist but put on Krampus  which did make me laugh numerous times through it. I do like that this film acknowledges Krampus as not many movies do even though he is a part of Christmas. I also liked that this film told you how it also happened to the gran when she was a child so could understand how Krampus was taking over Christmas. With the children's wish to make his family disappear Krampus did do as he was asked to do as Santa'a evil brother as known in some ways and shadow in others. This film did make me laugh which is something I did enjoy about this movie with the gingerbread

Film: How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World Year: 2019 Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure Directed By: Dean DeBlois Starring: Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, F. Murray Abraham About:  When Hiccup discovers Toothless isn't the only Night Fury, he must seek "The Hidden World", a secret Dragon Utopia before a hired tyrant named Grimmel finds it first. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ7XUCQ6pbE My Review: Being a fan of the How To Train Your Dragon movies I couldn't resist but to give this a watch at the cinema the first chance I got and I was so happy I did as this film was so much better than I thought it would be. I thought that this film was great and really stayed true to the other films in this trilogy. By showing how Hiccup is still saving the dragons and how they are safe and free because of him and the others that are helping to save them from poachers I think is good to see as it shows how people who don't live on their island s

I Heart Vegas - Lindsey Kelk (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: I Heart Vegas Author: Lindsey Kelk Genre: Chick- Lit, Romance, Contemporary Published By: Harper Published Year: 2011 My Review: Having seen this in a bookshop and thinking it looked different from my normal reads and books I had picked up recently I thought I would give this a read. As my first from Lindsey Kelk I didn't realise that this was in fact the fourth book in the I Heart series. I Heart Vegas is about a woman called Angela who has just received a letter that she is to be deported back to the United Kingdom in only four weeks time and needs to find herself a new visa or get married. As her friends try to cheer her up they end up going to Vegas for four days, where there is drama and romance! Will Angela manage to find a new job and receive a working visa? Will she marry her boyfriend Alex? or will she end up getting deported back to the United Kingdom? I thought that this book was very well written and took me completely by surprise. Having not read th

Pacific Rim: Uprising (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Pacific Rim: Uprising Year: 2018 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: Steven S. DeKnight Starring: John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Cailee Spaeny About:  Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BAhwgjMvnM My Review: Having seen and enjoyed the first Pacific Rim movie I thought I would give the second one a watch for the first time. I thought that it was good how they showed that a teenager was able to build a Jaeger by herself just by being a junker and one that works really well. By doing this even though she was so young it helped to highlight how talented she was and that she was a good pilot for them as well. I did think the small one in which she made was also pretty cool with what it was able to operate. Showing how Jake also didn't want to be a Jaeger pilot du

Millions (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Millions Year: 2004 Genre: Comedy, Crime, Drama Directed By: Danny Boyle Starring: Alex Etel, James Nesbitt, Daisy Donovan About:  Ethics, being human and the soul come to the fore when a 7-year old finds a bag of Pounds just days before the currency is switched to Euros and learns what we are really made of. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzG3a2NDZWQ My Review: Having not seen this film in years and not remembering much about it I thought that this would be the perfect time to watch this film again and rediscover the story of Millions . I thought that this film had a good idea behind it and seen how some children really do want to help people however go about it the wrong way, while others think more logically about how to spend the money. I do think it was good to see how the child kept seeing his role models in which were saints which helped to show how the child was pure of heart, and as he kept asking about his mother the audience was able to see jus

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Year: 2018 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: J.A. Bayona Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall About:  When the island's dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen and Claire mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn9mMeWcgoM My Review: Having not seen the second in the Jurassic World series, I thought this would be a perfect time for me to give it a watch especially after really enjoying the first one. I thought that this movie was really good and I liked how it was set years after the destruction of the park in the first movie. By doing this it kept the timeline on track but also made the audience care more for the dinosaurs and the danger in which they are in due to already being introduced in the previous movie, especially Blue! By having people come and abduct Blue in order to use her to create a weapon for a

American Psycho 2: All American Girl (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: American Psycho 2: All American Girl Year: 2002 Genre: Horror, Thriller Directed By: Morgan J. Freeman Starring: Mila Kunis, William Shatner, Geraint Wyn Davies About:  A girl named Rachael Newman has developed a taste for murder and will stand at nothing to become a college professor's assistant. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uODp59M_QY My Review: Having had this in my To Watch Pile for a while I thought it would be a perfect time to give this a watch for the first time. Being a fan of the first movie I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie and although this was different from what I would have expected I did think think that this was a good watch. Showing at the beginning of the movie how she took down Bateman and never got caught showed how she became a killer and really helped to show the character right from the beginning. By also having her motivation to join the FBI so she could take down other serial killers was something else in wh

Dog Training- Pet Friendly: Understanding and Caring For Your Pet - Julia Barnes (book review)

Book: Dog Training- Pet Friendly: Understanding and Caring for your Pet Author: Julia Barnes Genre: Non-Fiction Published By: Magnet & Steel USA Inc. Published Year: 2011 My Review: Getting a new puppy soon I thought it would be good for me to take a look at a dog training book just to remind myself of some training techniques as I haven't had to train a dog for years. This book is very easy reading and does go over things in which people already will know wither they have a dog or not as well as going over how to do certain tricks such as: Sit, Lie Down, Wait and more. By having a step-by-step way of doing this it helps new trainers to be able to do these tricks easily and effectively. This book also did have some dog sports in which I was not aware of and am interested in so I am happy that it focuses not only on show dogs and dog dancing but also other sports such as Flyball. By also having an index at the start of the book so that people can get to the section i

The Christmas Dragon (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Christmas Dragon Year: 2014 Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy Directed By: John Lyde Starring: Bailee Michelle Johnson, Paris Warner, David DeVilliers About:  A group of orphans goes on a journey to restore the lost magic and save Christmas. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N50pPqlCcIo My Review: With it being frosty outside at the moment I thought I would go for a Christmas movie that I had not seen before called The Christmas Dragon . This film did surprise me and I am glad that I saw this movie. I found that this movie was different from Christmas movies I usually end up seeing in that this one was an adventure to try and get an orb to Father Christmas in order to save Christmas from ending however without Santa approaching them and without the usual set-up of a Christmas movie. I thought by having the main characters of this film all being children that this helped to make it feel more of a family vibe to it. I also thought that the dragon in which w
