A Kid Like Jake (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: A Kid Like Jake Year: 2018 Genre: Drama, Family Directed By: Silas Howard Starring: Claire Danes, Jim Parsons, Octavia Spencer About:  Loving parents of a four-year-old must come to terms with their child being transgender. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR-5Rme7sQ8 My Review: With it being Pride month and having this movie on my To Watch list on Netflix I thought that this would be the perfect time to give this movie a watch. I wasn't sure what to expect with this movie and although it surprised me and I liked it more than I expected there is more in which I wish that they did with this film. I personally liked how A Kid Like Jake focused on the parents and how they both came to terms with how their son liked to dress as a girl and how it could be possibly more than that and that he could possibly be transgender. I liked this as it showed how the father was more accepting even though he didn't feel great about it and how the mother was in denial

Little Italy (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Little Italy Year: 2018 Genre: Comedy, Romance Directed By: Donald Petrie Starring: Hayden Christensen, Emma Roberts, Danny Aiello About:  A young couple must navigate a blossoming romance, amidst a war between their families' competing pizza restaurants. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8lDreq9le4 My Review: Wanting to watch a rom-com and having this on my Watch List on Netflix I couldn't resist but give this film a chance and see what I thought. Having liked Emma Roberts in everything I had seen her in previously as well I was excited to see if this was another film of hers in which I would enjoy. This film surprised me however I ended up enjoying this more than I expected. I liked that this film had a Romeo and Juliet vibe with the families not liking each other however the children both being in love with each other and feeling that their families were the reason in which they couldn't be together. I also thought it was clever having the gr

Devastation- M.J. Haag (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Devastation Author: M.J. Haag Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Retelling Published By: Shattered Glass Publishing LLC Published Year: 2016 My Review: Having read the first two books in this trilogy  Depravity  and  Deceit  I needed to know how the trilogy ended so picked up  Devastation  pretty much the moment I finished Deceit. I really enjoyed this trilogy and feel that this was the perfect way for me to get introduced to M.J. Haag as an author as I ended up loving these books more than I expected. The book follows on from the second book perfectly and shows what happens next to Alec (The Beast) and Benella once the curse has been broken upon the manor. Having Benella's name and confidence tarnished due to the baker in the last book and Alec struggling to keep on top of the manor and land. Benella and her father end up living at the estate and help Alec to bring his land back to it's rightful ways which has Alec trying to prove that he loves Benella as well as tryin

Leaving looking into this film and not seeing the trailer as I didn't want to ruin this for myself either I went in with an open mind and unsure what to expect. This film definitely exceeded my expectations and left me constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next. I thought that Mune: Guardian of the Moon was great in that it had someone who didn't want the job of guardian get it and ha

Unicorn Store (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Unicorn Store Year: 2019 Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy Directed By: Brie Larson Starring: Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Joan Cusack About:  A woman named Kit receives a mysterious invitation that would fulfill her childhood dreams. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_51UsTDBAE My Review: Having had this on my To Watch List on Netflix since it first came out I thought I would give Unicorn Store a watch. I wasn't really sure what to expect with this movie as having heard nothing about it from anyone and not having watched a trailer for it. As I did go in with an open mind I did feel like this movie did disappoint me and as it is classed as a comedy I personally just didn't understand as this is far more of a drama film. I did like how Unicorn Store focused on someone who thought that they were a failure in their lives and that they couldn't be loved by anyone including her parents due to being as she called herself "a failure" in which c

The Haunted Mansion (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Haunted Mansion Year: 2003 Genre: Comedy, Family, Fantasy Directed By: Rob Minkoff Starring: Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly About:  A realtor and his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U32Law7K-b8 My Review: Having not seen The Haunted Mansion in a while and been badly wanting to watch it for months I decided to watch this with my mum. As a favourite of mine when I was younger and still really enjoying it as an adult. This film makes me laugh as well as keeps me entertained throughout. I love that this film is about a an who is stuck as a ghost due to killing himself and not really understanding the truth about how the love of his life died. I think by having the woman in the film look like her which is why she is brought to the mansion rather sweet and does make

Dark Phoenix (film review)

Film: Dark Phoenix Year: 2019 Genre: Action, Adventure, Sci-fi Directed By: Simon Kinberg Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence About:  Jean Grey begins to develop incredible powers that corrupt and turn her into a Dark Phoenix. Now the X-Men will have to decide if the life of a team member is worth more than all the people living in the world. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-q8C_c-nlM My Review: Having been an X-Men fan for most of my life I was excited to see that Dark Phoenix was coming out and decided to go to the cinema to see it on the first opportunity that I had. Although this is a decent watch this is nothing like what I expected it to be and it really let me down. I thought that this movie was good in showing how Phoenix had dangerous powers and that Jean had no control over them which led to her hurting the ones that she loved. Realising this she did try to get help from anyone who she thought would be able to help her which I

Deceit - M.J. Haag (film review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Deceit Author: M.J. Haag Genre: Fantasy, Romance Published By: Shattered Glass Publishing LLC Published Year: 2015 My Review: Having read the first book just before picking this up I was really excited to see how things would progress for Benella and the Beast and worried about what the future holds for the family that have just moved to the water for their fathers job. Deceit comes straight after the events of the book  Depravity  and shows how Benella is now living with the Beast on his estate and wants to help him break the curse that has been put on him by the enchantress Rose. Learning that he needs to give her a night of pleasure to free him Benella tries to help him not only sexually to gain control but to also become a better man, while starting to realise that the Beast might be more than she expected. Personally, I loved how this book took place exactly as the first one ended which left no time for the reader to be confused or wondering what happened from

Aladdin (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Aladdin Year: 2019 Genre: Adventure, Comedy, Family Directed By: Guy Ritchie Starring: Will Smith, Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott About:  A kind-hearted street urchin and a power-hungry Grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcMtWwiyzpU My Review: Loving Aladdin since I was a child and seeing that a new one was released with one of my favourite actors Will Smith in it I badly needed to go and see it. Feeling worried that it wouldn't live up to the previous with Robin Williams as he left an incredible character of Genie behind. However, this movie exceeded my expectations and I ended up loving it a lot more than I expected. I loved that the beginning of the movie foreshadowed the film with showing how Will Smith was telling his children a story which had some songs about a princess, prince and a genie in which later is his family after the genie is allowed to become human a

The Girl With All The Gifts (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Girl With All The Gifts Year: 2016 Genre: Drama, Horror, Sci-fi Directed By: Colm McCarthy Starring: Sennia Nanua, Fisayo Akinade, Dominique Tipper About:  A scientist and a teacher living in a dystopian future embark on a journey of survival with a special young girl named Melanie. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjGkB_oWTe0 My Review: Having been interested in this movie for a while and it really catching my eye lately especially with it being on Netflix I couldn't resist but to give this a watch. This is something in which I had better expectations for than it gave me and seemed a rather forgettable movie even though it wasn't a bad watch. I liked that The Girl With All The Gifts started with showing how the children were taught and kept in separate rooms however made the audience wonder why they were kept that way when they seemed like normal children. Later discovering that they were zombies and that there was a zombie break all over the w

Ralph Breaks The Internet (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Ralph Breaks The Internet Year: 2018 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Phil Johnston, Rich Moore Starring: John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Gal Gadot About:  Six years after the events of "Wreck-It Ralph," Ralph and Vanellope, now friends, discover a wi-fi router in their arcade, leading them into a new adventure Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BcYBFC6zfY My Review: Having missed seeing this in the cinema, I had to watch this when it got released onto physical formats. Adoring the first film and having watched it a few days prior I was excited to see what happens in the second movie and if it would live up to first movie. I love that  Ralph Breaks The Internet continues on from the first movie really well and tells us that it has been six years that the main characters have been friends for and how Vanellope is starting to get bored of her game and wants more excitement in her life. By also showing how Wi-fi became a part of the a
