Film: The Haunted Mansion Year: 2003 Genre: Comedy, Family, Fantasy Directed By: Rob Minkoff Starring: Eddie Murphy, Marsha Thomason, Jennifer Tilly About:  A realtor and his wife and children are summoned to a mansion, which they soon discover is haunted, and while they attempt to escape, he learns an important lesson about the family he has neglected. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U32Law7K-b8 My Review: Having not seen The Haunted Mansion in a while and been badly wanting to watch it for months I decided to watch this with my mum. As a favourite of mine when I was younger and still really enjoying it as an adult. This film makes me laugh as well as keeps me entertained throughout. I love that this film is about a an who is stuck as a ghost due to killing himself and not really understanding the truth about how the love of his life died. I think by having the woman in the film look like her which is why she is brought to the mansion rather sweet and ...

Millions (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Millions Year: 2004 Genre: Comedy, Crime, Drama Directed By: Danny Boyle Starring: Alex Etel, James Nesbitt, Daisy Donovan About:  Ethics, being human and the soul come to the fore when a 7-year old finds a bag of Pounds just days before the currency is switched to Euros and learns what we are really made of. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzG3a2NDZWQ My Review: Having not seen this film in years and not remembering much about it I thought that this would be the perfect time to watch this film again and rediscover the story of Millions . I thought that this film had a good idea behind it and seen how some children really do want to help people however go about it the wrong way, while others think more logically about how to spend the money. I do think it was good to see how the child kept seeing his role models in which were saints which helped to show how the child was pure of heart, and as he kept asking about his mother the audience was able t...

Nanny McPhee (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film:  Nanny McPhee Year:  2005 Genre:  Comedy, Family, Fantasy Directed By:  Kirk Jones Starring:  Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury About:  A governess uses magic to rein in the behavior of seven ne'er-do-well children in her charge. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wxtZPI5kRo My Review: Having been unwell for the last week I thought I would cheer myself up by watching  Nanny McPhee , this is a film which was a big part of my childhood and never fails to make me happy. I think that by showing how bad the children are at the start of the film is key for this movie but also getting to understand that they are only being bad in order to get their father's attention as they don't get any now that their mother has died. By having  Nanny McPhee  as someone who understands this but helps to teach the children how to be polite, go to bed when they are asked and more some without her intentions she reall...

Bird Box (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: Bird Box Year: 2018 Genre: Drama, Horror, Sci-fi Directed By: Susanne Bier Starring: Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich About:  Five years after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide, a mother and her two children make a desperate bid to reach safety. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INJ2bPFy108 My Review: Having wanted to see this from the moment I saw the first trailer a couple of months ago I was glad to realise that Netflix had released it and thought that this would be a good film to watch with my mother. I am very glad I did watch this as although it left some questions to be answered I ended up liking this film a lot more than I thought I was going to. Having the movie start with urgency and telling children not to take their blindfolds off I thought was a great way of starting the movie as it started rather fast and made the watcher from the very beginning wonder what was going on and why they were to kee...

Delivery Man (Film review)

Film: Delivery Man Year: 2013 Genre: Comedy, Drama Starring: Vince Vaughn, Chris Pratt, Cobie Smulders About:  An affable underachiever finds out he's fathered 533 children through anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years ago. Now he must decide whether or not to come forward when 142 of them file a lawsuit to reveal his identity. My Review: This is a film I have seen many times however never get bored or tired of, so given a nice and relaxing night I decided to give this another watch and share my views on it. This film is about a man who when his sperm is used to father over 500 children and 142 want to find out who he is decides to find out a little about his children without them knowing it. With a law suit also in place for him to reveal who he is while he still wants to be an anonymous donor who will win the law suit and will he ever reveal who he is? This is a film I never get bored of no matter how many times I see it and leaves me smiling and feeli...

Butterfly Summer - Anne-Marie Conway (book review)

Butterfly summer by Anne-Marie Conway is such a great little mystery novel which follows Becky who moves to Oakbridge with her mum and becomes friends with a girl who is always at the Butterfly Garden called Rosa May. However as Becky finds out about a photo from her mothers past which she has no idea about she starts questioning her mum and everything she knows about the past. This is such a good fast-paced novel in which I couldn't put down once I picked it up. It is kind of predictable a times but there is a great twist near the end of the book which was amazing. I do think it ended rather abruptly however and there was more of the novel that could have been expended on and leaves you wanting more by the end of the book. I would highly recommend this book to younger readers who are looking for a mystery book as well as people wanting a mystery book who wants a very simple story line that is really easy to follow.
