Broken Homes- Ben Aaronovitch (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Broken Homes

Genre: Crime, Fantasy, Mystery
Published By: Gollancz
Published Year: 2013

My Review:
With my work colleague letting me borrow the next book in the Peter Grant series, I was hoping that this book would be as good as the previous book which had me wondering what was going to happen next and if they would discover where the dark wizard was hiding. Not only this, but with the characters moving to a building they felt had a magical connection, I was wondering how this would effect not only the people performing good magic but the ones who would want it for darkness. Broken Homes did surprise me with the ending however it did rather bore me throughout which did disappoint me.

I liked that Broken Homes showed that it wasn't only people who could be magical but that it could also be buildings which demonstrated how magic was everywhere and could build in certain parts of the city. With this being something that I hadn't thought of before, it was interesting to see how much power that this would possess. I did think that showing nature in the form of rivers and having goddesses of trees was really sweet and made me interested in what else life could come from as there was more to the magical community than I had once expected. The ending of this book was the best part in my opinion, with Peter finally meeting the dark magician and fighting him. His magical ability in fighting with the dark magician showed how Peter was getting more powerful and how he was able to hold his own over magic even though there was still a lot for him to learn. Not only this, but having Lesley betray him and actually taser him at the end showed how she was now aligned with the dark magician which really made me worry for the characters in the book and wonder what he was able to do in order to make her change sides.

However, this book did frustrate me a lot and I felt like nothing was happening throughout it until the very end which left me bored with most of the book. Having characters reappear from previous books did make me hope that there was going to be more happening but just left me feeling disappointed especially when nothing was happening with them. There was basically no crime either for them to be investigating which left me wondering why this book had been written and if it hadn't been for the ending really bringing it together I would have considered not reading any more of the series.

Overall, I thought that this book was really slow and not much happened throughout it until the very end which did save this book. I would recommend this to people who are enjoying the Peter Grant series but think as a stand alone this book would leave the reader bored and that they wouldn't enjoy it as much. Personally, I think this is my least favourite in the series so far but I am looking forward to seeing what will happen next and how Lesley's betrayal will shape further books.

My Rating: 3/5

Film: Little Italy Year: 2018 Genre: Comedy, Romance Directed By: Donald Petrie Starring: Hayden Christensen, Emma Roberts, Danny Aiello About:  A young couple must navigate a blossoming romance, amidst a war between their families' competing pizza restaurants. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8lDreq9le4 My Review: Wanting to watch a rom-com and having this on my Watch List on Netflix I couldn't resist but give this film a chance and see what I thought. Having liked Emma Roberts in everything I had seen her in previously as well I was excited to see if this was another film of hers in which I would enjoy. This film surprised me however I ended up enjoying this more than I expected. I liked that this film had a Romeo and Juliet vibe with the families not liking each other however the children both being in love with each other and feeling that their families were the reason in which they couldn't be together. I also thought it was clever having the gr...
