Circle (film review)

Film: Circle Year: 2015 Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery Directed By: Aaron Hann, Mario Miscione Starring: Allegra Masters, Aimee McKay, Ashley Key About:  Held captive and faced with their imminent executions, fifty strangers are forced to choose the one person among them who deserves to live. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAlpm2oRzy8 My Review: Having not watched this movie in a while and wanting to watch it all day, I caved and put this on through Netflix. Personally, I like horror movies that have a psychological twist such as this film about right and wrong. I have seen this film before and I wouldn't say that it is amazing but it is a good watch.  I liked how Circle  had a lot of different characters and that the viewer got to see the movie from everyone's perspective not just one or two characters while also leaving the questions "why are they there?" and "what is the purpose of the circle?" which left me hoping for more answers as the film w

Broken Homes- Ben Aaronovitch (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Broken Homes Author: Ben Aaronovitch Genre: Crime, Fantasy, Mystery Published By: Gollancz Published Year: 2013 My Review: With my work colleague letting me borrow the next book in the Peter Grant series, I was hoping that this book would be as good as the previous book which had me wondering what was going to happen next and if they would discover where the dark wizard was hiding. Not only this, but with the characters moving to a building they felt had a magical connection, I was wondering how this would effect not only the people performing good magic but the ones who would want it for darkness. Broken Homes did surprise me with the ending however it did rather bore me throughout which did disappoint me. I liked that Broken Homes showed that it wasn't only people who could be magical but that it could also be buildings which demonstrated how magic was everywhere and could build in certain parts of the city. With this being something that I hadn't thought of

I Am Wrath (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: I Am Wrath Year: 2016 Genre: Action, Crime, Drama Directed By: Chuck Russell Starring: John Travolta, Christopher Meloni, Amanda Schull About:  A man is out for justice after a group of corrupt police officers are unable to catch his wife's killer. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwiQCDpYzjE My Review: When my mum came home with this movie I had no idea what to expect as I had never heard of it before but liking a lot of movies with John Travolta I had high hopes that I would enjoy it. This film did surprise me a lot and something in which I enjoyed a lot more than I had expected. Starting I Am Wrath with Stanley's wife dying and how he went out for revenge made me think that this was somewhat based off of a John Wick movie, however as a fan of the trilogy this didn't bother me at all. Showing how the police and people higher up didn't care about who killed his wife and even let the killer go as he was part of a gang in which the police wer

Whispers Underground Ben Aaronovitch (book review) *contains spoilers*

Book: Whispers Underground Author: Ben Aaronovitch Genre: Crime, Fantasy, Mystery Published By: Gollancz Published Year: 2012 My Review: Continuing with the Peter Grant series I couldn't wait to start the third book. With the ending of the second book being so surprising and showing how there was an evil warlock who was also being in London it really made me hope that they would reveal more about them and wonder how Nightingale didn't know about them prior. Hoping for more answers this book excited me and had me looking forward to what was going to happen next. Ben Aaronovitch seems to have become his own in his writing of this novel, with the character developments and feeling that his writing is becoming a lot easier to read than the previous books in this series. With the writing seeming to get better I found that this book was one in which really hooked me from the beginning and already part of the story and one with the characters. A thing thing in which I enjo

The Road To El Dorado (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Road To El Dorado Year: 2000 Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy Directed By: Bibo Bergeron, Don Paul Starring: Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh, Rosie Perez About:  Two swindlers get their hands on a map to the fabled city of gold, El Dorado. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcOfJwN0bdY My Review:  Letting my Twitter decide which movie that it wants to see me review the most voted for movie was The Road To El Dorado . Having either never seen this before or not having seen it in so long that I couldn't remember anything about it I was excited to watch this. Knowing that this was a children's movie I wasn't sure what this would be like but really hoped that it would be good for both adults and children and I was not disappointed. Humor is a key part of the film and was very well done for both an adult and child audience with jokes that both adults and children would get without it being too obvious. Having this made me laugh and enjoy the film a

The Hustle (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The Hustle Year: 2019 Genre: Crime, Comedy Directed By: Chris Addison Starring: Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson, Alex Sharp About:  Two con women - one low rent and the other high class - team up to take down the men who have wronged them. Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j5hwooOHVE My Review: Having asked my Facebook page what film they would like me to review last week (sorry for the delay) they chose The Hustle . This is a movie that I wanted to see in the cinema but never got around to. I was excited by the premise of the movie and the casting as it had Anne Hathaway however it ended up being not as good as I had expected. Showing how both of the main female characters in the movie Penny played by Rebel Wilson and Josephine by Anne Hathaway both in their own hustling ways was a good way of showing their own distinct styles. By further showing how Penny is an amateur and hustles people who only see her as her looks and decides that they should be taken adva

The 5th Wave (film review) *contains spoilers*

Film: The 5th Wave Year: 2016 Genre: Action, Adventure, Drama Directed By: J Blakeson Starring: Chloe Grace Moretz, Matthew Zuk, Gabriela Lopez About:  Four waves of increasingly deadly alien attacks have left most of Earth in ruin. Cassie is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother Trailer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmxLybfGNC4 My Review: Having not seen The 5th Wave in a while and continuously being drawn to it in my movie collection I decided to give this a watch. Gutted that they decided not to continue on the franchise as it left a lot of questions however I do find this film enjoyable. Showing the background to the film and the different waves in which The Others seemed to take when eliminating the human race was something which helped the audience understand what was happening with the waves of Darkness; Destruction; Infection; Invasion and Child Education. With each wave killing humanity on the Earth so that the aliens are able to invade w
